Former Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition Bhupinder Singh Hooda on Friday said the Baroda bye-election was a battle for Chandigarh. He said the hardworking, honest and self-respecting people of Baroda did not want a share in the government of plunder, crime and corruption, but wanted their own government.
Hooda today campaigned in Jasrana, Gumana, Aavli and Bilbilan in Baroda and addressed several public meetings and sought support for Congress candidate Induraj Narwal. The villagers extended their full support to Hooda and assured him of a big victory.
Hooda said in the BJP’s six years of BJP rule in the state, Haryana is running in the reverse gear as the government is also abandoning plans and schemes of the previous Congress government, instead of creating new schemes of public interest. “During the Congress government, loans and interest worth thousands of crores of farmers, poor, backward and Dalits were waived, 3 lakh 82 thousand poor families were given hundred yard plots, Rs 91,000 to build houses, millions of water tanks and connections. But the current government stopped this scheme of the poor,” he said, highlighting the welfare schemes initiated by the Congress government.

“During our government, the rate of almost every crop was increased by 10 to 30 percent annually. But far from increasing MSP, the current government is passing laws to eliminate the MSP,” the Leader of Opposition said, attacking the anti-farmer policies of the BJP Government,” he said.
Hooda said during the Congress government, no tax was imposed on fertilizers, seeds, pesticides and farming equipment and VAT on petrol-diesel was the lowest in the country and the farmer has to pay 10 paise per unit for electricity in agriculture. “The UPA government had waived off a loan of 72,000 crores of farmers in the entire country, of which Rs 2200 crores was waived off the debt of farmers of Haryana alone. The Congress government in Haryana waived Rs 810 crore in interest to farmers and Rs 1,600 crore were waived in electricity bills. But instead of giving any relief to the poor, laborers and farmers, this government worked to raise the debt on its head.” Hooda said.

The Leader of Opposition said that the present coalition government has no schemes, plans or achievements to show to the people of the state and this is why the ruling alliance only wants to mislead people and seek votes. “But people are now aware of the reality and intention of this government and want that this government to be discharged of its duties as soon as possible. Every vote of Baroda voters will be a democratic blow to demolish the anti-people policies of this government,” he said.
