Chandigarh: Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament Deepender Singh Hooda has alleged that sportspersons are being discriminated against in the state. Referring to the ‘Padak Lao-Pad Pao’- policy made during previous Congress regime, Deepender said that now the policy has been reduced to policy of discrimination.
He claimed that in the Bhupinder Singh Hooda government, 700 sportspersons were given high-grade jobs under the sports policy.
Thousands of sportspersons were felicitated with prices and with cash awards to boost sports culture in the state. Sadly, in the BJP government, hardly one or two sportspersons have been given high-grade jobs based on his/her achievements and there is no clarity under which criteria-the sportsperson have been appointed.
Surprisingly, in this undeclared sports policy of the BJP government, celebrated wrestler Bajrang Punia, who won the country’s highest honor Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna, was also not given a place.
ICONIC PLAYERS LEFT
Bajrang Punia has won several international medals including gold in the Commonwealth Games, Asian Games, Asian Championships and Gold in the Commonwealth Championships.
shockingly, this government in its new unannounced sports policy did not consider them worthy of obtaining any position.
MP Deepender who is also member of Congress working committee, said that it is unthinkable for Sakshi Malik, the wrestler who won the medal in the Olympics in the country, to be deprived of a proper post under this policy.
When Sakshi came with the medal in Olympics, the government made many promises to promote her but later, all those promises were best forgotten.
Not even a good player like Jakarta Asian Games gold medal winner Manjeet Chahal has a job today.
It is learnt that the world number one boxer Amit Panghal, who won medals in the Commonwealth Games, World Boxing Championships and Asian Boxing Championships, has not been given the position by the government yet.
Neeraj Chopra, who has set several records in javelin throwing and won the gold medal in the Commonwealth Games, has also been ignored by the current government.
Commonwealth and Asian Games medal winner Vinesh Phogat is also deprived of proper honors.
Not only this, players like para athletes Amit Saroha and Ekta Bhayan, who have brought glory to the country in many international competitions, have also been ignored in this government.
Apart from these, there are so many players who have to fight in the court to get their position and honor under this sports policy.
Such attitude of the government towards the players who have brought glory to the name of the state in the whole world is surprising and disturbing.
Deepender Singh Hooda says that the BJP government is discriminating against sportspersons not only in placing them in high positions but also in Group-D recruitments.
In the recruitment of Group-D held recently, 1518 players are being fired from the new and old gradation.
The Rajya Sabha MP said that during the Bhupendra Singh Hooda government, Haryana’s image had emerged as a state honoring talents, sports and sportspersons, but the current government has completely tarnished that image.
SPAT competitions started in Hooda government were stopped by the BJP government.
The players’ dietary allowances have been reduced to mere papers and announcements.
The prize money of medal winning players was reduced.
Since long, the players of the state are waiting for their due honors and prize money.
The sports stadiums built at village level during the Hooda government are being ignored. They lack maintenance and appointment of coaches, Deepender added.
BABITA PHOGAT & KAVITA DEVI
Recently, the Haryana BJP Government has appointed Commonwealth Games medalist Babita Phogat and Kabbadi player have been appointed as deputy directors in the State Sports and Youth Affairs Department. The announcement was made through two separate orders dated on July 29 by the Haryana Government’s Sports and Youth Affairs Department.
BJP Sports Policy
In reversing the Congress’s much-talked ‘padak lao-pad pao’ sports policy, the BJP led Manohar Lal Khattar government had unveiled Sports Policy-2015 on the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda.
The then Sports Minister Anil Vij had claimed that a new sports policy would catch the players young to bring desired results.
Anil Vij had claimed that the new policy would plug holes in previous policy. The focus would be on bringing transparency and effort would be made to bring the children from poor families on board.
