Rohtak: Unnati Hooda,13, from Rohtak who participated in the Shining Star Badminton Tournament held at Bahadurgarh of Jhajjar district won Gold Medal in Girls (Singles) under 15 by defeating Muskan Sangwan (21-7, 21-13).
The tournament was held from November 20 to November 22. Unnati who practiced at Rohtak’s Chhotu Ram Badminton Government academy also clinched gold medal in Girls (Singles) in under-17 by defeating Afreen Bishnoi (21-6, 21-11). There were around 600 participants across India in various categories. Parvesh Kumar, government coach of Unnati Hooda, said that currently she is ranked 3rd in India in Girls (Singles) under 15 and despite hurdles of lockdown, she worked hard at home to keep her momentum of a winner. He said it was a big achievement for a player who practices at government academy with limited resources who defeated Mukan Sangwan, rank-2 in India in under-15 and Meenal Rautela in Girls under-17. Unnati received the cash award of Rs. 10,000 each for winning in the Under 15 and 17 age category. .
