Rohtak: A young couple from the district who wanted to marry against their family members wishes on Wednesday were shot dead by the girl’s kin near Delhi by-pass after calling them on pretext on getting their marriage registered in local court.
The deceased girl identified Pooja,24, was from Kanheli village while the boy-Rohit,23, was from Baketa village of the district. Both were declared brought dead when rushed to PGIMS Rohtak.
One more person accompanying the couple identified as Mohit is also admitted in the hospital with bullet injuries.

Santosh, mother of Rohit told the media that Pooja’s kin’s had also given their agreement to the alliance and got ready to register their marriage and invited the couple to Rohtak today.
“When Pooja and Rohit arrived in Swift car today, the girl’s relatives arrived with many others, they opened fire indiscriminately and shot dead my son Rohit and Pooja”, Santosh added. The crime was recorded in the CCTV camera.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Sajjan Kumar said that prima facie it appears to be a case of a major couple wanting to marry against their parents wishes and the allegations of the crime is on the girl’s parents. On the motive behind behind the double murder, Police said that the girl Pooja was a divorcee and used to live in Rohtak in care of her uncle Kuldeep after her parents had died.
The Police has registered a arrested Pooja’s uncle Kuldeep and one other kin Vikas after registering a case of murder unde IPC sections. “We are probing the case from all angles and even property angle can’t be ruled out”, police said.
PGIMS Rohtak, Medical Superintendent Dr. Pushpa said that the couple was brought dead while one other person Mohit brought to the hospital is under treatment.
