Tikri Border: Sukhpreet Kaur from Faridkot district in Punjab who is camping with Punjab farmers demanding scrapping of three agriculture bills for the last three days has several good memories to be taken back home.

Sukhpreet said that she met Manisha, a local resident of Rohtak during the protest who helped her deal with issues that she can’t discuss with male counterparts came with her for the protest.

“From using the bathroom frequently to staying at night safely are the issues that Manisha helped her to deal with. Right now, we are camping at Tikri border where farmers are staying in trollies while we stay at a shop situated in proximity”, she added. Manisha, who is a social activist added that after witnessing the issues of young girls like Sukhpreet Kaur from Punjab, they spoke to their local contacts who arranged a shop to stay safely. She said that half a dozen girls stay at the office at night and locals here were happily arranging food, water, blankets for them.

Vijay Kumar, a resident of Fatehabad district had come all the way after covering more than 150kms with his tractor and water tanker to provide free water services for the protesting farmers. “I came to Tikri border with the Punjab farmers three days ago. About 800-1000 farmers fill up their containers from the tanker daily. After the tanker gets empty, I refill it from a local tubewell in Bahadurgarh”, he claimed.

Charanjit Singh Majithia, who is based at Bahadurgarh city in Jhajjar district said that after seeing the problem of protesters, the local factories here on the highway have thrown open their toilets, bathrooms for the farmers so that they have continued their protest smoothly. Amit Kaur, an aged woman from Barnala said that the women who came from Punjab in the agitation use local bathrooms on the petrol pumps that are opened for them round-the-clock. Local roadside restaurants have put up banners for the free hot-cooked-meal for the farmers participating in the agitation in Bahadurgarh city.
