NIFAA chairman Pritpal Singh Pannu told that in the past few years, India has seen an improvement in the blood assortment ranging from 9.8 million units in 2012-13 to 11.45 million in 2017-18. Despite this, India gazes at blood shortage of a whopping 1.95 million units per year. Several myths keep individuals from not taking the initiative to donate. In India, blood donations have further drastically diminished due to the implementation of social distancing, cancellation of various blood drives and low donor turnout due to fears associated with catching disease from public places such as hospitals and blood banks. Despite the massive burden of trauma and surgeries in the current situation, several hospitals in almost all states and union territories have been struggling to meet the daily requirements of blood in the past few months. This disruption has impacted accessibility of blood for emergency surgeries, postpartum hemorrhage cases, thalassemia, sickle-cell disease, and cancer patients. It is the obligation of every individual to promote awareness about blood donation, especially the heroes who are in different regions of society and nation and from whom the citizens of the country take inspiration in this direction. As their impact can change the whole scenario and prevent the country from the situation of lack of accessible blood. With this reasoning, the National Integrated Forum of Artists and Activists has compiled to run a nationwide blood donation drive on the 90th martyrdom day of Shaheed E Azam Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev on 23 March 2021. Launched as nation-wide blood donation campaign, Samvedna found favour from non residents Indians and now it will also be organized in United States of America, Canada, UK, Australia, New Zealand, Mauritius, UAE, Fiji and NRI will donate on same day to pays homage to the great martyrdom of Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev, as well as a salute to all unrecognized yet truly great individuals of the nation who were martyred and endured barbarities for the opportunity and protection of the homeland.
